E' una muffa che nello stadio larvale del suo sviluppo e in determinate condizioni climatiche è in grado di arricchire le uve e caratterizzarle con composti aromatici molto particolari.I vini ottenuti da uve così arricchite sono dotati di buona struttura,molto profumati e spesso destinati a migliorare nel tempo.Proprio perchè in grado di dare vini di grande pregio,la Botrytis cinerea viene chiamata "muffa nobile".
